Are you an individual or a group? Individual
Node City Tilburg
Node State/Province Noord-Brabant
Node Country Netherlands
For which networks have you ever operated a node?
  • Other (please specify): This will be my first. From what I have read this xx network node is relatively easy to set up, due to clear instructions so that a non-technical person can do it as well.
What kind of improvements would you like to see in xx network nodes vs. previous nodes you have supported? In general it would be nice if nodes can be run from a mobile device in the future.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an xx network node? I am of course dependent on the service of my ISP, but the connection in the Netherlands is relatively good and stable.
What is the maximum upload bandwidth in megabits per second your node can provide? 1000
What is the maximum download bandwidth in megabits per second your node can provide? 1000
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? 85
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. €0.2283 per kWh
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator?` 70
In what type of environment would this server be located? Personal Home
If your server is located in your personal home, please specify the name of your Internet Service Provider (ISP). T-Mobile
If your server is located in a Datacenter, please specify the name of the company hosting it. Nodes will not be allowed to run on Hetzner. If you do, you will not receive compensation.
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? No
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published xx network BetaNet Node specifications (found here)? I have a shop where I can put in the order for the required hardware, once I am allowed to run a node. The specs are: CPU (Ryzen 7 3800tx), GPU (Geforce RTX 2080ti gaming trio), RAM (32GB DDR4-3200), SSD (1 TB + 250GB)
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below: N/A
Why do you want to be a node? For me it is a combination of getting a deeper knowledge about the technical workings of blockchain technology by running a node, the xx network focus on privacy and quantum-resistance that I wish to support and a way to diversify my sources of income. I like that the community on discord consists of both tech and non-tech people exchanging thoughts.
How did you originally hear about the xx network? Word of Mouth
Which current xx network communities are you a member of?
  • Twitter
  • Telegram
  • Discord
Are you an active member of those communities? No
What specifically, interests you about the xx network platform? I think the xx network platform contributes to one of the most important issues of the digital era, privacy and for blockchain quantum security. Technology has the potential to provide solutions to many global societal issues. Emerging quantum computers increasingly pose a challenge to the trust we have in blockchain. I hope xx network can protect against that and guarantee that we can keep using technology for good.
Outside of xx network communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? No
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? Dutch Blockchain Coalition (DBC) Conference, June 21th 2019.
Do you have past experience managing communities or creating content to be distributed across social media? Please enter details for all with which you are comfortable or have experience:
  • Group messaging curation / management (telegram, whatsapp, etc): Blockmotion Capital (crypto investment platform)
  • Forum management for Discord: Blockmotion Capital (crypto investment platform)
As part of growing the xx network community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an xx network BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. 1
Would you be interested in helping to lead the development of the next xx network community? No
Why do you want to run a node in the xx network
  • To protect private personal communication around health and lifestyle issues from mass surveillance and abuse by centralized organizations
  • To promote quantum secure distributed systems
  • To earn xx coins
  • To contribute to a promising project
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? As I understand decentralized refers to the level of control and distribution to differences of location and they are not mutually exclusive. My position on the decentralization spectrum depends on the specific use cases. Each position has its tradeoffs, so you would need to see whichever is most suited for the application at hand. But generally speaking the more decentralized and distributed, the better.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the xx network platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. I think the main selling point compared to other solutions is quantum resistancy. If this works in combination with a fast and robust decentralized network it makes xx network more future-proof.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the xx network Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? For me privacy is more about freedom. Every aspect of the platform needs to be designed with privacy in mind. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Data has become the new oil. Our data is often already sold without our awareness or permission. With the advent of artifical intelligence and big data, our data is now already being abused to subtly inform your decisions. To maintain individual freedom in the future, we need a privacy-proof way of using the internet.
In your opinion, what threat, if any, do quantum computers pose toward decentralized systems? What about centralized systems? Quantum computers can render our current encryption methods that are used in everything from messaging to online banking obsolete.

Nice application. Maybe check in the time it would take to order your video card. Therevis a huge demand now and it could take months.

Thank you!

Good tip, will check up on that.

Looks like a great application but do agree…check time frame for ordering a GPU.
