Did you purchase xx coins in the xx coin sale? Yes
Are you an individual or a group? Virtual Rendezvous
Node City New Haven
Node Province Connecticut
Node Country USA
For which networks Have you ever operated a node? MAIDsafe.net
What kind of improvements would you like to see in xx network nodes vs. previous nodes you have supported? I would like to experiment with "consumer level" PCs trying to act as nodes for a future main net contribution by everyone, not just "miners."
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an xx network node? It would take me a few weeks to buy the required equipment and install it, and then decide if I had to ship it physically to the UK for the company to be eventually paid xx coins.
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? 100
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. $400/month for A/C so comparable?
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator?` 100
Connection speed 3000Mbps
In what type of environment would this server be located? In data center rack in separate cooled room in home/office.
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? Only for my own custom Web server work, not in a professional data center just using my own rack, home-built hardware.
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published xx network BetaNet Node specifications (found here)? No
Specs
Why do you want to be a node? I have been interested in radically distributed authority, storage, and money movement my entire adult life and it is key to my Virtual Rendezvous venture I have been designing for years and plan to start building this summer. For more see: Rendezvous.com www.linkedin.com/in/charles-l-perkins-virtual-rendezvous
How did you originally hear about the xx network? Word of Mouth
Which current xx network communities are you a member of? LinkedIn
Are you an active member of those communities? No
What specifically, interests you about the xx network platform? I knew David Chaum personally and know of his 40 year Quest and stellar reputation for getting things right, and doing what matters for the long-term future of crypto. The Quantum resistance, and the meta data shredding are the two key features I care about.
Outside of xx network communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? I try to participate in every virtual/online event in the larger blockchain world, most recently was promoting xx.network every hour of the multi-day marathon Ready Layer One conference. I go to meetups in NYC and Boston and New Haven for crypto enthusiasts, and train/mentor new developers to get involved.
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? I have attended a dozen in the past 3 months, two in which David Chaum spoke, always promoting xx.network. The biggest one recently was 22 hours long over three days: Ready Layer One.
Do you have past experience managing communities or creating content to be distributed across social media? Please enter details for all with which you are comfortable or have experience: Group messaging curation: Some Meetup and LinkedIn curation, group promotion., Community Management Other: 8300 Tumble followers over 3.5 year history of curation.
As part of growing the xx network community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an xx network BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. I could dedicate about an hour every two weeks to creating a quite update in text and video of node stats, operation, etc.
Would you be interested in helping to lead the development of the next xx network community? Yes
Why do you want to run a node in the xx network? To protect private personal communication around health and lifestyle issues from mass surveillance and abuse by centralized organizations, To help build David Chaum's vision of a decentralized world, To undo the centralization of the internet by big tech companies
Other Reasons To get to know like-minded developers who might want to build identity/reputation systems above it and refine my own ideas.
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? All networks are at least partly distributed in the software they run to create a service (e.g., BIND, other IETF protocols), but usually have a centralized origin or authentication "owner" who provides updates, provides central cloud resources, makes decisions on future features, etc. A decentralized network distributes these other efforts among the peers actually running the network. I am interested in radically decentralized authority, governance, software development, and community and culture building/policing.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the xx network platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. Deeper cryptological history and experience means a more secure, trustworthy software layer and service, one that is both resistant to future quantum computer attack and hides the otherwise routinely collected meta-data network traffic to provide a guaranteed, novel degree of privacy. The denominated coins allow money movement without requiring revealed identity, and prevent message traffic analysis by dividing larger transfers into smaller blocks to blend into regular traffic and hide connectivity. Altogether, a future of secure, trusted democratic governance structures, elections, and community consensus building is the foundation of a better future society.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the xx network Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? Individual liberty, economic advantage and intellectual property, and the ability to create and test new capabilities fairly are all based upon a guarantee that some forms of communication and collaboration are free from the prying eyes of governments, competitors, or greedy overly monopolistically powerful tech companies without the future of the public goods of the Internet in mind.
In your opinion, what threat, if any, do quantum computers pose toward decentralized systems? What about centralized systems? Quantum computers threaten essentially all forms of current cryptography, in centralized but encrypted clouds or in decentralized systems which require strong crypto to survive.
