Node Country Portugal
For which networks have you ever operated a node?
  • Bitcoin (BTC, BCH, etc)
  • Ethereum (ETH, ETC, etc)
  • Other (please specify): Litecoin, ...
What kind of improvements would you like to see in xx network nodes vs. previous nodes you have supported? I would like to see a node that is easy to set up.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an xx network node? I don't think there's any! Internet is good in Portugal and I have a machine that already exceeds the minimum specs.
What is the maximum upload bandwidth in megabits per second your node can provide? 100
What is the maximum download bandwidth in megabits per second your node can provide? 200
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? 99
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. 0.14450 euros/kWh
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator?` 26
In what type of environment would this server be located? Personal Home
If your server is located in your personal home, please specify the name of your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Vodafone
If your server is located in a Datacenter, please specify the name of the company hosting it. Nodes will not be allowed to run on Hetzner. If you do, you will not receive compensation. N/A
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? I have actively participated in the setup of a mining farm in Portugal. Namely the purchase, assembly of the parts, and the setup of the (secure) network configurations. This farm comprises multiple ASICs and regular computers.
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published xx network BetaNet Node specifications (found here)? RTX 3070 Ti 8GB GDDR6X. AMD Ryzen 5 HexaCore 3.6GHz (w/ turbo 4.2GHz). 32 GB RAM. 1TB SSD.
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below: N/A.
Why do you want to be a node? I believe that the best way to influence something is by actively being part of it. Therefore, I think it makes perfect sense that I actively contribute to the privacy network that people deserve.
How did you originally hear about the xx network? Word of Mouth
Which current xx network communities are you a member of?
  • Twitter
  • Telegram
  • Discord
Are you an active member of those communities? No
What specifically, interests you about the xx network platform? First, bringing privacy mainstream. It is time for us, the users to reclaim the needed privacy. Big companies keep using and selling our data, which is then often used to manipulate us. I believe in the vision of the xx network and want to actively be a part of it.
Outside of xx network communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? Not really, many of these other platforms don't have an interesting developer community group. I like reading the conversations on Discord and seeing the interactions between developers and the community.
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? I have attended multiple blockchain meetups in Portugal, but never a major blockchain conference.
Do you have past experience managing communities or creating content to be distributed across social media? Please enter details for all with which you are comfortable or have experience:
As part of growing the xx network community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an xx network BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. No
Would you be interested in helping to lead the development of the next xx network community? No
Why do you want to run a node in the xx network
    • To protect private personal communication around health and lifestyle issues from mass surveillance and abuse by centralized organizations
    • To contribute to a promising project
    • To undo the centralization of the internet by big tech companies
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? A distributed network is a network that is typically run by one single entity but in a distributed fashion, so the nodes are typically distributed amongst different locations. A decentralized network, however, is distributed amongst different location *and* different entities. Therefore, subverting a decentralized network is harder as it requires to compromise different entities as opposed to just one.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the xx network platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. - Quantum secure & private payments. - Metadata shredding in the messages. - End-to-end encryption.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the xx network Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? Privacy by default is critical as it gives us the freedom we need. The sentence "Privacy is power. What people don't know they can't ruin" resonates a lot with me.
In your opinion, what threat, if any, do quantum computers pose toward decentralized systems? What about centralized systems? Quantum computers pose a major threat for both types of systems as they are inherent reliant on the use of traditional public-key cryptography, which is vulnerable to quantum attacks.
