What is your occupation? IT
How many years experience in your field? 8-15
What is the highest degree or level of school you have completed? None (Self-Taught)
Did you purchase xx coins in the xx coin sale? No
Are you an individual or a group? Individual
Node City Geldrop
Node Province Brabant
Node Country Netherlands
For which networks Have you ever operated a node? Bitcoin (BTC, BCH, etc), Ethereum (ETH, ETC, etc), Monero, Beam, XRP, PIVX, ODIN
What kind of improvements would you like to see in xx network nodes vs. previous nodes you have supported? Better errors basically. It's so hard to manage a node without decent errors in logs. Github is ok, and many use it. But I like subversion. With good comments made for each commit. That way if there in an error we can compare versions and understand what might be the problem.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an xx network node? Investing money was a problem. If I don't make mainnet I would have to sell the computer. My dad in law need an new computer, so if all fails its not trown away money :). fortunately the specs are in scope for what he wants. So I'm just gonna buy parts he wants for now (overkill pc for betanet), and for mainnet I'll get an new PC.
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? 99
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. €0,21 / kWh
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator?` 100
In what type of environment would this server be located? Personal Home
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? Yes (please describe), Some servers running debian in a small datacenter near me. I used to help the owner of mijnwebsitehosting.nl. He has about 6 racks of space in 2 data centers.
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published xx network BetaNet Node specifications (found here)? Yes (Please list specs)
Specs AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, Asrock B550 Taichi, Kingston Server Premier 64gb 3200Mhz ecc, Seasonic Prime TX-850, Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB, Gigabyte GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER WINDFORCE OC 3X 8G
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below:
Why do you want to be a node? I have extra time and I don't want to work for another marketing company. Also computers interest me more then marketing :)
How did you originally hear about the xx network? Word of Mouth
Which current xx network communities are you a member of? Discord
What specifically, interests you about the xx network platform? I had high hopes on a private messenger cryptocurrency before. But that one did not make it. So when I heard about this project I was interested. So I went to the reading. I like how non-commercial this setup is. David made sure the focus is on making a good structure and community.
Outside of xx network communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? I used to be an active member in Discord for the crypto ODIN
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? https://www.cwi.nl/events/2019/lectures-2019/cwi-lectures-2019
Do you have past experience managing communities or creating content to be distributed across social media? Please enter details for all with which you are comfortable or have experience: Instructional video content: Yea, masternode instruction video for ODIN. But thats dead now..., Forum management for Discord: was a moderator on Discord
As part of growing the xx network community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an xx network BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. I have about 20 hours a week to spare. I could help with a node installation instruction video and react on posts on Discord, Medium and redit. My wife is an animator, so I could also help with making animations (trikdesign.eu)..
Why do you want to run a node in the xx network? To protect the privacy of political speech, To help build David Chaum's vision of a decentralized world, Other privacy coins I followed where focused on making money. Therefore attrackted the wrong people. And people make the community.
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? Centralized gives full controll to the central node but is the most vunarable to attackers. Decentralisation and distribution fixes both. For fully distributed systems it is difficult to guarenty correctness and timelyness. It increases complexity. Decentralization (multiple centres each controlling their own nodes) on the other hand simplifies the correntness and robustness requirements.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the xx network platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. 1. Privacy is not an option but build in. So a user does not stick out when using it. 2. Monopolization less likely due 1 node per person 3. The value of the coin is also fixed. So the reward given to nodes is also fair. Also trading bots are less likely to interfere.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the xx network Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? Again if one person sticks out by encrypting his message or using a VPN he or she marks himself even more. By making privacy default nobody loses and therefor bigdata has way more trouble to extract to what purpose XX messenger is used.
In your opinion, what threat, if any, do quantum computers pose toward decentralized systems? What about centralized systems? Decentralized systems are easier to dycrypt if the topology is fixed than a centralized system. You have an certain amout of nodes that are now bundeled together in smaller groups. So a attacker can target a group thats way smaller than a large centralized group. But XX uses a decentralized system with a random topology for each message, vastly increasing the problem space. Hopefully making it to big for quantum computers to calculate. Quantum can easely decrypt messages sent to a node if given enough time. If all the encryption is handeled by one super computer its only a mather of time that a message gets decrypted from person a to b.

I just found out that I can “like” my own application. Uhmm, I’ll just like your comment instead. Thanks!

Looks good to me. Great spec’d node. Good luck!

I have two options for placing my node. I’m my application I have Geldrop as location. The ISP used there is XS4all.nl. Or at my own house in Lelystad, I have T-mobile. I choose Geldrop at my dad in law because in Lelystad are already some nodes. For mainnet I’ll rent an extra IP at XS4all. That’s something I can’t do at T-mobile. For mainnet I’ll probably run the gateway in a datacenter (transip.nl, upcloud.com, or local hosting company mijnwebsitehosting.nl).

Good application. You have my vote.
