Please describe your experience in the Crypto/Blockchain space, if any? I have been involved predominantly in the XRP ecosystem. I write and run market maker, and AI/ML-driven trading bots. I run a validator on the XRP Ledger, and also a Bitcoin full node. I have written tools for balancing cryptocurrency portfolios, and spoken a a number of PyData events on utilising machine learning to predict price of cryptocurrencies. I run a weekly live Youtube show in which I try to explain and teach people (generally non technical audience) how various aspects of cryptocurrencies work.
Are you an individual or a group? Individual
Node City Helsinki
Node State
Node Country Finland
For which networks Have you ever operated a node? Bitcoin (BTC, BCH, etc), XRP
What kind of improvements would you like to see in Elixxir nodes vs. previous the previous nodes you have supported? Better monitoring abilities. E.g. integration with tools like Graphana, Datadog, Sensu, Prometheous etc.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an Elixxir node?
What is a reasonable maximum connection speed on which you could operate a BetaNet node in your geographic region? (Where 0 = 10 Megabits/second, and 100 = 10 Gigabits/second) 74
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? (As a percentage) 100
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. . €0.06/kWH
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator? (Where 0 = 1 hour/month, and 100 = 20 hours/month) 4
If you were selected to run a BetaNet node, would it run on your own hardware or be deployed to cloud-based servers? Both
In what type of environment would this server be located? Datacenter
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? Yes (please describe)
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published Elixxir BetaNet node specifications? No
Yes (Please list specs)
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below: Not yet.
Do you have past experience deploying servers to cloud-based services? Yes (please specify)
Yes (please specify) I currently work on the infrastructure team for IBM Cloud Databases.
Why do you want to be a node? Elixxir looks like a very interesting blockchain, and one of the few new ones that seem to offer any actual benefit over others. I currently run nodes on Bitcoin and the XRP Ledger, and am interested in being involved in the network.
How did you originally hear about Elixxir? Word of Mouth
Which current Elixxir communities are you a member of? Twitter
Are you an active member of those communities? No
What specifically, interests you about the Elixxir platform? I like the approach of combining the aspects of a consensus algo similar to XRP but with the approach of building dynamic groups of nodes to validate each transaction. It seems to take the best ideas of XRP and get around the problem of statically configuring UNLs.
Outside of Elixxir communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? XRP
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? Blockercon, Bristol
As part of growing the Elixxir community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an Elixxir BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. Yes (how much content on a monthly basis?)
If yes, how much content on a monthly basis? Occasional blog post, maybe once per month. Cover as topics maybe once a month on weekly YourTube show
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? Decentralised networks are networks in which there is no central authority or point of control. On a decentralised network there is no-one that can prevent me from doing what I want to do (within the rules of the network itself). A distributed network is one with no geographic of logic centre, but may still have centralised control or authority. Decentralised networks are always distributed Distributed networks are not necessarily decentralised.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the Elixxir platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. Speed and linear scalability, yet with transactional privacy.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the Elixxir Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? A growing amount of data is being harvested be side-channel or inadvertent leaks. Whilst each service might reveal only a small or (on it's own) insignificant bit of information, this is being easily data mined and combined to create much larger profiles of individuals.
