Applicant City Bangalore
Applicant State/Province Karnataka
Applicant Country India
What languages do you speak? Hindi, Kannada, English
What is your occupation? Software Development
How many years experience in your field? 1-3
What is the highest degree or level of school you have completed? Bachelor’s degree (for example: BA. BS)
Please describe your experience in the Crypto/Blockchain space, if any? First came across bitcoin in 2013, have been into blockchains ever since. Started working on a decentralized exchange late called ezether around late 2016, launched it in mid-2017 and realized that there are major UX hurdles before users can use Dapps. Have been working on community and ecosystem development in India since then through incrypt.
Are you an individual or a group? Group
Node City Bangalore
Node State Karnataka
Node Country India
For which networks Have you ever operated a node? Bitcoin (BTC, BCH, etc), Ethereum (ETH, ETC, etc), PIVX
What kind of improvements would you like to see in Elixxir nodes vs. previous the previous nodes you have supported? Easier deployment using a CLI. Some had complicated procedures, especially when staking was involved. Auto restart if the internet or machine goes down. So the software should automatically start when the system boots and connect to the elixxir network.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an Elixxir node? India still doesn't have 100% internet uptime and it also has bad power distribution, so there are power cuts at time that could take the entire node offline
What is a reasonable maximum connection speed on which you could operate a BetaNet node in your geographic region? (Where 0 = 10 Megabits/second, and 100 = 10 Gigabits/second) 40
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? (As a percentage) 90
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. . 200$
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator? (Where 0 = 1 hour/month, and 100 = 20 hours/month) 49
If you were selected to run a BetaNet node, would it run on your own hardware or be deployed to cloud-based servers? Both
In what type of environment would this server be located? Datacenter
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? No
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published Elixxir BetaNet node specifications? No
Yes (Please list specs)
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below:
Do you have past experience deploying servers to cloud-based services? Yes (please specify)
Yes (please specify) Deployed multiple staking servers for masternode based blockchains which followed a very similar system to dash. Used Vultr and digital ocean to do so. Usually used multiple data centers over one.
Why do you want to be a node? Privacy is a fundamental right that everyone should have access to. The current internet infrastructure doesn't support that. Elixxir would enable it.
How did you originally hear about Elixxir? Twitter
Which current Elixxir communities are you a member of? Telegram, Medium
Are you an active member of those communities? No
What specifically, interests you about the Elixxir platform? Privacy and scale
Outside of Elixxir communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? Ethereum
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? ethsingapore, and ethindia
As part of growing the Elixxir community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an Elixxir BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. Yes (how much content on a monthly basis?)
If yes, how much content on a monthly basis? 1 piece
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? Decentralized networks have no central party that controls it. Decentralized networks are usually using distributed network architecture. Distributed networks, on the other hand, can range from centralized to decentralized control. I'd prefer a higher degree of decentralization as that allows the system to not have a single point of failure.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the Elixxir platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions. The elixxir platforms core propositions are scale, speed and privacy. Elixxir uses a different consensus mechanism that scales linearly with more node participants, whereas most of the current blockchains do not increase throughput so have a constant throughput for any number of node participants. Elixir also uses pre-compute to decrease block times to seconds from minutes, which helps achieve faster confirmation times. Most other blockchains compute the block in real time which means there is a higher amount of time used up for stitching together the block,
Privacy by Default is a goal of the Elixxir Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? Data centralization is a huge problem that the current internet infrastructure has created. We have seen these effects play out from NSA snooping to Facebook data being misused by multiple parties. The internet needs a fundamental architectural change to fix this, and platforms like Elixxir are working towards enabling that. An open internet is the only way the internet will blossom, and for the internet to be open, everyone should have their fundamental rights of freedom of expression and freedom of speech. Privacy by default helps enforce this.
