What kind of improvements would you like to see in Elixxir nodes vs. previous the previous nodes you have supported? Built-in support for failover/mirroring features for stability. APIs for easy visualizations.
What are potential setbacks preventing you from operating an Elixxir node? Undefined upgrade path and timing. Rate of growth of the ecosystem (i.e. time to mainnet where real returns start).
What is a reasonable maximum connection speed on which you could operate a BetaNet node in your geographic region? (Where 0 = 10 Megabits/second, and 100 = 10 Gigabits/second) 84
What is a reasonable uptime estimate you can provide for your BetaNet node? (As a percentage) 98
Please estimate the cost of electricity in the geographic area where your BetaNet node will be running. . $0.11/mw
On a monthly basis, how much time can you publicly commit to dedicating toward governance if you were selected as a BetaNet node operator? (Where 0 = 1 hour/month, and 100 = 20 hours/month) 56
If you were selected to run a BetaNet node, would it run on your own hardware or be deployed to cloud-based servers? Both
In what type of environment would this server be located? Office Location
Do you have past experience deploying hardware servers in a datacenter? Yes (please describe)
Do you already own sufficient hardware to meet the published Elixxir BetaNet node specifications? Yes (Please list specs)
Yes (Please list specs) 32GB RAM, 8Core CPU, 1-4 GPU, 1TB SSD, PCIExpress M.2
Do you have hardware you would like to use but does not meet the stated BetaNet node specs? If so, please provide specs on that hardware below: No.
Do you have past experience deploying servers to cloud-based services? Yes (please specify)
Yes (please specify) Multiple DASH nodes run on AWS.
Why do you want to be a node? The Elixxir protocol offers exciting privacy potential for the distributed applications. We have been following since Summer of 2018.
How did you originally hear about Elixxir? Word of Mouth
Which current Elixxir communities are you a member of? Telegram, Discord, Medium, Twitter
Are you an active member of those communities? Yes
What specifically, interests you about the Elixxir platform? Privacy through best in class encryption, speed of transactions thanks to pre-compute.
Outside of Elixxir communities, are you an active participant in other node or developer community groups? If so, which ones? I am a participant in the Ethereum community. No longer an active BTC or DASH community member.
Have you ever attended a blockchain conference? If so, which one(s)? Many. Consensus (every year), Ethereal, Ethereum meetup (Zug), ETHDenver, multiple conferences in Washington, DC, New York, Boston San Francisco, Denver, London, Switzerland.
As part of growing the Elixxir community, are you willing to create content as part of operating an Elixxir BetaNet node? Examples would be node setup & on-boarding review vlog post, bi-weekly twitter update, medium review of on-going node operational process, etc. Yes (how much content on a monthly basis?)
If yes, how much content on a monthly basis? 3 hours
What is the difference between decentralized networks and distributed networks, and where on the decentralization spectrum do you sit? decentralization is critical for privacy and fairness. On a political philosophical spectrum, I am on the far decentralized end. Distribution of nodes adds more resiliency based on nodes not being concentrated in particular geographies. As long as there are enough nodes, I am not too concerned about distribution.
As best as you can given currently available information, please describe the value proposition of the Elixxir platform and how it differs from other current blockchain solutions.
Privacy by Default is a goal of the Elixxir Platform. In your opinion, why is Privacy by Default critical for the future of the internet? As an early adopter of Freenet (back in early 2000s) I believe that privacy is core to the internet. Obviously centralized data is being used against individuals today, and that trend needs to shift back to empower the individuals. Government monitoring should be minimized across the globe, not just in certain countries.
