Hetzner Again

As many in the community have noted, the issue of nodes running on Hetzner has reared its head again.

As we revisit this issue, there are 44 nodes running on Hetzner by our count. Of these nodes, 18 were either previously grandfathered in, or were given explicit permission to run on Hetzner.

Of the other 26 nodes, 14 nodes have been banned, and 12 have been required to relocate. Nodes have been banned if they explicitly lied on their applications. Some exceptions were made for nodes which have been online for more than 4 months, in which case they are required to relocate.

Banned Nodes:
Banned nodes have been removed and are listed below. They will not receive compensation for this month (January 2021) and will not be allowed to rejoin the network in the future, unless they are successful in a public appeals process. You can find more information and participate in the appeals process here:

Required to Relocate:
Nodes that have been requested to relocate are mainly nodes who did not lie on their applications. There are newly joined on Hetzner, a small number that switched from other hosts to Hetzner or who lied but have been online with good statistics for significant periods of time. They have been informed that they must relocate by March 1, 2021, otherwise they will be banned from the network and will forfeit compensation for the month of February 2021.

Thank you to all the community members who brought the recurrence of this issue to the attention of the team. Going forward, it should be clear to new applicants that running nodes on Hetzner will NOT be allowed and nodes who join the xx network BetaNet using Hetzner will be banned.

Is there a recap why so many nodes on Hetzner? Is it just really cheap?

@xxteam I already said it before and now again: It is such a small adjustement. At the nodes section on the website: “When you dont meet the requirements, then ie 1 month grace period to change it, otherwise ciao.”

quote from Keith: Going forward, it should be clear to new applicants that running nodes on Hetzner will NOT be allowed and nodes who join the xx network BetaNet using Hetzner will be banned.
Place it on the website please. This Hetzner is stuff is months and months old.And slowing us down in a mayor way. Precomp times of 25sec or more, high failure rate etc.
