Postage was discussed, but never developed. Some vocal community members wanted no fees, so the idea went nowhere.

There’s no way to network to collect postage (usage) fees for cMix messages.

> xxPostage v1.0 Currently, the xx network doesn’t have the postage system as described in the official whitepaper documents. Users are either in the “free” or “unlimited” group. If you are in the “free” group, there is a limit to how many messages you can send. But if you are on the “unlimited” list, you can send as many messages as you want. The rules for these groups are set by a permissioning server, which broadcasts to all of the gateways about it. How the “Free” Tier Works The “free” tier…

> Great that [co-nexx.us](http://co-nexx.us), Haven and other social media chat apps that will run on cMixx are in development!

It’d be nice to have, but [co-nexx.us / app · GitLab](https://gitlab.com/co-nexx-us/app) shows 2 months of no activity.

Last time I [looked](https://forum.xx.network/t/revised-increase-min-staking/7045/22), 1 in 4 rounds were failing in pre-comp phase. I don’t know how anyone could deal with that (especially on mobile, as that means 33% more attempts to transmit). And since people are getting elected anyway (too many open validator slots, etc.), the chances of getting anyone to pay for postage when 1 in 4 messages need to be resent are very slim (even if postage was implemented).

It’s the same as it was years ago - someone needs to fix the validator issue (and more), but the community is populated by types who have always resisted attempts to properly run the network and on top of that we have likely-minded voters who support these fanatics, plus validator pools and artisan pool runners who are all on their side.
